Check your lottery status
The CDA will open the Section 8 waitlist when vouchers are available. We will announce the waitlist is opening on our website.

If you are not hearing about the Section 8 waitlist directly from the CDA, it is likely a scam. Always go to trusted sources for information on housing assistance and be skeptical of generic social media posts.

Lottery Process

When we open the waitlist, we use a lottery process. We will accept applications during a certain time period. We'll estimate how many Section 8 vouchers will be available in the next 1-2 years. When applications close, we'll randomly select that many applicants to add to the waitlist.

Applicants are selected in the lottery using a random computer sort. Those not selected in the lottery are not added to the waitlist. You can re-apply the next time the waitlist opens.

All applications in the lottery pool have an equal chance of being selected. The date you applied and any preferences do not help or hurt your odds of being selected in the lottery. Only the total number of applicants affects your chance of being selected.
